Introduction 

The Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Presidential Center for Women and Development (EJS Center) was founded in 2018 to be a catalyst for political and social change across Africa by helping unleash its most abundant latent power — its women. The EJS Center aims to amplify the voice of women and girls in all spheres of life by increasing the representation of women in public service leadership roles in Africa. Through a unique blend of programming, advocacy, archival research, and museum exhibitions, the EJS Center seeks to become a premier institution dedicated to advancing and sustaining women’s political and social development on the continent.

The EJS Center is seeking to hire an experienced Director of Partnerships and Resource Mobilization to develop and implement an integrated fundraising strategy to support its work championing women’s ascension to the highest levels of leadership and challenging systemic barriers to girls’ and women’s advancement.

Report to:  Chief Operations Officer

Job Summary

Reporting to the COO, the Director of Partnerships and Resource Mobilization serves as a key leadership team member and an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting the Center’s fundraising activities. In partnership with the ED and COO, this position is responsible for all fundraising and development activities. The successful candidate will help maintain legacy relationships and form new relationships to build the EJS Center’s financial resources. He/she will also design and implement a comprehensive plan for developing key external alliances by cultivating individual and philanthropic support and representing the Center in relevant meetings and events.

He/she will have primary responsibility for establishing and implementing the infrastructure needed to grow the budget through the solicitation of major gifts, grants, special events, government, corporate, and foundation support as part of an extensive fundraising and donor strategy.

He/she will expand and diversify the EJS Center’s donor base/pipeline and work closely with other team members to secure funding for new initiatives. In addition, in collaboration with the ED and the COO, he/she will work closely with the board of directors and support board members as they take on a more active fundraising role.

 

Specific Duties & Responsibilities: 

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Support and partner with the ED, COO, and board members on all major fundraising initiatives
  • Deepen relationships with legacy donors
  • Raise funds from sources
  • Collaborate with the COO to develop and implement the EJS Center’s financial strategy
  • Actively work with the ED and senior staff to develop and implement a comprehensive development strategy to include corporate, foundation, and other grants, etc.
  • Have primary responsibility for the development and execution of all proposals and concept notes
  • Oversee research funding sources and trends, with foresight, to help ensure that the EJS Center is ahead of major funding changes or trends
  • Monitor all donor information and interaction; provide and present statistical analyses to board and senior leaders
  • Develop and implement a stewardship program aimed at cultivating deeper ties with donors
  • Monitor and report regularly on the progress of the Center’s development activities
  • Participate in the creation of the capital campaign strategy
  • Work with development consultants
  • Identify, develop, and mentor the development team

 

Qualifications & Experience

The ideal candidate will fit the profile below:

  • At least 10 years of professional hands-on experience in a nonprofit organization; demonstrated success in a development function (managing and forging relationships with multiple donor sources)
  • Tangible experience of having expanded and cultivated existing donor relationships over time
  • Must have a sales orientation
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Flexible and adaptable style; a leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical fundraising initiatives
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently, but also as a team player who will productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority within and outside the EJS Center
  • Bachelor’s degree is required, but a Master’s preferred
  • High energy and passion for the EJS Center’s mission are essential
  • Ability to construct, articulate, and implement an annual strategic development plan
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • A strong understanding of fundraising KPIs
  • Experience using various donor management software and tools
  • A professional and resourceful style, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects at a time

 

The gross salary for this position is $72,000 per year.
