Ophelia I Weeks
Dr. Ophelia Inez Weeks is the Executive Director and Board Secretary for the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Presidential Center for Women and Development, having joined the Center in April 2020. She is broadly experienced and brings to the Center nearly forty years of university research, teaching, administration, mentoring, advocacy for women and girls, and involvement in development activities. She subscribes to the importance of teamwork. By overseeing the administration, programs, and strategic plan of the Center, she leads the EJS Center’s team and implements the Center’s mission and vision.
Prior to joining the Center, Dr. Weeks was President of the University of Liberia (UL) from 2017-2019. She also served UL as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the TJR Faulkner College of Science and Technology between 2012 and 2017.
Dr. Weeks completed her BSc in Microbiology at McGill University; Ph.D. in Neuroanatomy at Howard University; Postdoctoral Fellowship at Emory University and rose to Full Professor at Florida International University (FIU), during her 30-year tenure there.
She is an Independent Board Director for Guaranty Trust Bank (Liberia) Limited; serves on RUFORUM’s International Advisory Panel and TAGDev Steering Committee; is Professor Emerita at FIU, and Board Director for TWG Incorporated. She is a keen gardener, golfer, and tennis player.
